“SLEEP OUT FOR THE HOMELESS”

The Goodwill Association of Western Australia Inc. hosted its 9th annual “Sleep out for the Homeless” event. Ninteen people from different Perth suburbs turned up to the talks and discussion on homelessness and thirteen gave up their warm beds in winter to raise awareness and funds for local organisations and individuals who assist the homeless.

""

Damian Walsh, Director of The Shopfront, spoke on the invaluable insights into the realities faced by the homeless with personal stories of people who have approached The Shopfront. To quote a person who sought help, “The Shopfront, truly is my Safe Haven. It’s a place where I can find real support or assistance with whatever I may need. There are people there who genuinely care about me”.

Tony James, who assists individuals experiencing homelessness in Perth, shared his experiences and encouraged others to engage in similar acts of service. He noted that contributions need not be extensive; even straightforward actions, such as preparing sandwiches and distributing them to those in need while commuting to work or traveling into the city, can make a meaningful impact.

Warm clothing, sleeping bags, tents, blankets, beanies, and socks were provided to The Shopfront, St. Patrick’s in Fremantle, the Missionaries of Charity in Queens Park, and Tony James for distribution to individuals experiencing homelessness.
